Job summary

National Highways is recruiting a Lead Operational Technology Specialist for Tunnel Systems & Technology to act as the technical authority for tunnel OT, shaping strategy and governance while delivering safe, reliable digital solutions across the tunnel estate.

The role is hybrid with two days per week in the office, requiring collaboration with the Principal OT Architect and senior stakeholders to drive continuous improvement and long-term capability development in OT across tunnels.

Qualifications

• Deep expertise in operational technology within complex engineering environments such as tunnels systems with a strong understanding of functional safety, resilience, availability, and performance.
• Experience working with ITS systems such as SCADA, PLC, control and automation systems, information products, monitoring and detection systems.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership for tunnel systems and OT, shaping direction and governance.
• Define and drive technical strategy for tunnel OT with roadmaps and guardrails across SCADA, ITS, and telecom systems.
• Lead business cases, procurement approaches, and supplier engagement while aligning with future architecture and strategy.
