Job summary

National Highways is recruiting a Lead Operational Technology Specialist - Tunnel Systems & Technology to lead OT strategy for tunnel estates. The role drives governance, architecture and long-term roadmaps for safe, reliable, and innovative OT solutions across SCADA, ITS, and telecoms.

The position is hybrid, requiring two days per week in the office, and involves mentoring teams, shaping procurement, and partnering with stakeholders to deliver safe, data-driven asset management across

Qualifications

• Deep OT expertise in complex engineering environments such as tunnels, with strong safety, availability and performance focus.
• Strong understanding of ITS/SCADA/PLC systems and environmental considerations.
• Ability to translate technical concepts for business and technical stakeholders to shape solutions and decisions.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership for tunnel OT and governance across renewals and new technologies.
• Define and drive the technical strategy and long-term roadmaps for tunnel systems (SCADA, ITS, electrical and telecoms).
• Lead business cases, procurement approaches, and supplier engagement with open standards in mind.
• Mentor colleagues, collaborate across teams, and drive continuous improvement.
• Manage budgets allocated by senior OT leaders in line with governance processes.
• Build and strengthen Operational Technology capability across the organisation.
