Job summary

National Highways is seeking a Lead Operational Technology Specialist - Tunnel Systems & Technology to act as the technical authority for tunnel OT. You will lead governance, strategy, and roadmaps across SCADA, ITS, and electrical/telecom domains to ensure safe and reliable tunnel operations.

The role is hybrid, requiring two days per week in the office, and involves mentoring teams, developing business cases, and engaging with suppliers to adopt open standards and fit-for-purpose solutions.

Qualifications

• Extensive OT experience in complex engineering environments such as tunnels.
• Knowledge of ITS systems, including SCADA, PLC, and control/automation.
• Awareness of environmental considerations and industrial networking protocols.
• Ability to translate complex technical concepts for business and technical stakeholders.
• Experience in governance, roadmapping, standards, and architectural alignment.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership for tunnel OT, shaping direction with stakeholders.
• Act as technical authority for tunnels OT with governance and assurance processes.
• Define technical strategy and roadmaps for tunnel systems across SCADA, ITS, and E&M domains.
• Lead business case development, procurement approaches, and supplier engagement.
• Mentor OT colleagues and drive continuous improvement across teams.
• Manage OT budgets in line with governance processes.
