Job description

Go back London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust

Trust Registrar in Rheumatology/GIM

The closing date is 27 May 2025

The Trust is recruiting to a Trust Specialist Registrar post in Rheumatology for a fixed term of 12 months. The post will be based at Northwick Park Hospital only and it would be an ideal starting point for someone looking to apply for SpR training schemes in Rheumatology.

Rheumatology GIM wards are Jonson and Dryden Ward at Northwick Park with outliers on Gray Ward, with 3 consultants, each caring for 15-20 patients. Inpatient care is supported by 2 ward-based registrars, 7 core medical trainees or GP trainees, and 2 foundation year 1 doctors. The allocated ward consultant will undertake three morning ward rounds a week and support a board round on the other two days.

There are currently 7 consultants in rheumatology and general medicine to whom the post holder will be responsible, and this team will be expanding to 8 by the end of the year. All have a particular interest in the interface of general medicine in rheumatology, and two of them are responsible for running a nationally commissioned service for connective tissue diseases.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work Monday to Friday, 0900-1700, and is expected to cover the following duties. These are subject to change in line with service development.

Ward Duties

The postholder will work as a member of the Rheumatology team with F1 trainees, SHOs, ST registrars, and the consultant staff to ensure high-quality care of rheumatology and medical patients. The rheumatology team is responsible for the care of patients on Jonson Ward, Dryden Ward, and outlying patients on Gray Ward. The rheumatology team provides rheumatological opinions and urgent care to the Ambulatory Emergency Care Unit.

The post holder will contribute to rheumatology clinics in a predominantly supernumerary manner. Rheumatology general and sub-specialty clinics take place in Northwick Park, including early arthritis, connective tissue disease, metabolic bone disease, injection clinics, and ankylosing spondylitis clinic.
