Job summary

The Vale Employability team within the Vale of Glamorgan Council is seeking a Triage Officer to help residents access the right employability support. You will coordinate referrals, perform initial assessments and connect participants with suitable programmes and services.

Working across multiple locations (Palmerston Education Centre and The Pod) on a 37-hour week, this fixed-term post offers a grade 6 SCP 14-19 salary of £29,540-£32,061 and requires dedication to customer-focused service and

About Us

The Vale Employability team is part of the Learning & Skills Directorate within the Vale of Glamorgan Council and delivers a range of Welsh Government, UK Government and Department for Work and Pensions funded employability programmes, including Communities for Work Plus, CELT+, Connect to Work and Trailblazers. These programmes support residents aged 16+ to overcome barriers to employment, access training opportunities and progress into sustainable work.

Working as part of an integrated local delivery team, we collaborate with employers, training providers, community organisations and statutory partners to provide tailored support that helps improve employment outcomes and tackle poverty across the Vale of Glamorgan.

About The Role

Pay Details: Grade 6 SCP 14 - 19 £29,540 - £32,061

Hours of Work / Working Pattern: 37 hours per week

Main Place of Work: Multiple Locations (Offices are Palmerston Education Centre and The Pod)

Temporary Reason: Fixed-term post funded through externally funded employability programmes.

Description: We are looking for a motivated and organised individual to join the Vale Employability team as a Triage Officer. In this varied and rewarding role, you will help residents access the right employability support by coordinating referrals, carrying out initial assessments and connecting participants with appropriate programmes, services and opportunities.

You will work closely with colleagues, employers and partner organisations to ensure people receive timely, personalised support to overcome barriers and progress towards training, education and employment. Alongside supporting participants, you will play an important role in maintaining programme records, monitoring performance and helping to deliver community engagement activities across the Vale of Glamorgan.

About You

You will need:

You will be passionate about supporting local people to improve their opportunities to access employment, training and skills opportunities.

You will have experience of working within a community, employability or administrative environment and will be confident engaging with residents, stakeholders and partner organisations. You will be highly organised, able to manage competing priorities and comfortable working with data, monitoring systems and performance information.

You will be an effective communicator who enjoys working collaboratively and building positive relationships while maintaining a strong focus on customer service and achieving positive outcomes for participants.

Essential
  • Experience of working in a community, employability or administrative setting.
  • Experience of providing administrative support within a large organisation.
  • Experience of working within a partnership or multi-agency environment.
  • Experience of supporting projects, activities or events.
  • Experience of providing frontline support to customers or service users.
  • Understanding of customer service delivery.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and databases.
  • Knowledge of community development issues.
  • Knowledge of Vale Employability and the Welsh Government Tackling Poverty agenda.
  • Excellent organisational, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and monitor performance information.
  • Educated to Level 3 or equivalent.
  • Ability to travel throughout the Vale of Glamorgan as required.
Desirable
  • Experience of working with people experiencing poverty and barriers to employment.
  • Knowledge of Welsh Government or UK Government employability programmes.
  • Knowledge of employment and welfare benefits.
  • Knowledge of Results Based Accountability.
  • Ability to speak or learn Welsh
