Job summary

Tithe Barn Primary School in Stockport is seeking a compassionate Behaviour Mentor to support pupils who need extra help to feel safe, understood and ready to learn. You will work one-to-one, in small groups and with classes, using restorative and trauma-informed approaches to promote inclusion and positive behaviour.

The role is 30 hours per week, term time only, fixed term to 31 August 2027, with 8:45am to 3:15pm. Application details and school visits are provided by Stockport Council.

Responsibilities

• Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils, taking time to understand their individual needs, communication and behaviour.
• Support pupils to recognise and understand their emotions, develop regulation strategies and make positive, increasingly independent choices.
• Use relational, restorative and trauma-informed approaches, balancing empathy and understanding with clear, consistent boundaries and high expectations.
• Provide proactive behaviour support, identifying potential triggers and putting strategies in place to help pupils remain regulated and engaged.
• Use appropriate de-escalation strategies when pupils become distressed or dysregulated, supporting them to feel safe and successfully return to learning.
• Work closely with teachers, pastoral and SEND teams, families and other professionals to ensure a consistent approach to supporting each pupil.
• Contribute to the implementation and review of individual support plans, behaviour strategies and EHCP outcomes.
• Support pupils to make meaningful progress in their learning, emotional wellbeing, social development and inclusion.
• Promote inclusion, resilience, and independence within the school community
