Job summary

Greencore, Hatfield, is recruiting for a depot operative on a 4 on 4 off pattern, 6am–6pm, at £16.95 per hour. You’ll help allocate trained resources, drive safe operating practices and support fleet maintenance planning.

The role emphasizes leadership, safety, and procedures, with on‑the‑job training and a path to progression within a major picking depot serving retailers. This permanent role offers holidays, pension, life insurance, and employee benefits.

Qualifications

• Basic maths and effective written and spoken English.
• People management experience in diverse teams.
• Food safety level 1 and Health & Safety level 2 competencies.
• Experience of using handheld devices to record data.

Responsibilities

• Allocate trained resources to tasks with safe equipment.
• Investigate issues affecting budgeted operational plan and prevent unsafe practices.
• Provide leadership and direction to support staff and escalate when needed.
• Maintain accurate administrative procedures and reporting for audits.
• Conduct inductions and training, ensuring records are signed off.
• Identify and communicate opportunities to improve safety, hygiene, and service quality.
• Ensure drivers are compliant with safety standards and vehicle roadworthiness records.
• Participate in risk assessments, investigations, inspections, and corrective actions.
• Assist with scheduling and planning of vehicle fleet maintenance.
