Gregory Distribution Ltd. in Cullompton is seeking a Transport Supervisor to lead day-to-day operations for the Milk Operation, ensuring regulatory compliance and efficient transport execution.

You will drive routes, supervise drivers, and support site operations while maintaining health and safety standards. The role suits someone with transport experience and a hands-on leadership style, within a 6:00–18:00, 4-on 4-off day pattern.

Qualifications

• Experience in transport/logistics and knowledge of Working Time Directive and EU Drivers' Hours.
• Proven leadership and ability to manage and motivate a busy team.
• Strong communication across levels and stakeholders.
• Familiar with local farming/industrial areas and operational reporting.

Responsibilities

• Route vehicles and drivers to maximise utilisation while controlling costs.
• Ensure tankers are clean, safe, and professional.
• Enforce uniform policy and PPE compliance.
• Provide compliance support meeting statutory and Health & Safety standards.
• Complete documentation accurately and on time.
• Maintain positive industrial relations and escalate issues when needed.
• Manage first-stage disciplinary procedures per policy.
• Ensure hygiene standards and operating procedures are followed.
• Handle stakeholder inquiries professionally and promptly.
• Coordinate with workshops for servicing and O Licence compliance.
• Support driver recruitment and inductions.

Job Description

Join Gregory Distribution as a Transport Supervisor, supporting our busy Milk Operation based in Cullompton. In this role, you will provide hands-on leadership and supervision of day-to-day transport operations, with a strong focus on compliance and operational excellence. You will also offer wider operational support across the Cullompton site as required.

Key Responsibilities

• Ensure all vehicles and drivers under your supervision are effectively routed to maximise utilisation, consistently meeting customer and GDL service requirements while maintaining control of associated costs.
• Ensure all tankers operating from Cullompton are presented in a clean, safe, and professional condition at all times.
• Enforce adherence to the company uniform policy, ensuring appropriate PPE is issued, available, and reordered as required.
• Provide strong compliance support, ensuring all activities involving vehicles, drivers, and trailers meet statutory obligations, legal requirements, and Health & Safety standards.
• Ensure all GDL and customer documentation is completed accurately and within required timescales.
• Maintain positive industrial relations, addressing local issues promptly and escalating concerns to Senior Management where necessary.
• Manage first-stage disciplinary procedures for employees under your supervision, in line with company policy.
• Ensure full compliance with customer hygiene standards and required operating procedures.
• Handle incoming telephone calls courteously and professionally, resolving queries efficiently from customers or senior GDL management.
• Build and maintain strong working relationships between drivers, customers, and key stakeholders (including farmers), ensuring issues are resolved amicably through appropriate channels.
• Coordinate with Workshops to make vehicles and trailers available for servicing and repairs, ensuring continued compliance with 'O' Licence requirements.
• Support the recruitment of drivers, ensuring all new starters receive thorough inductions and are fully trained in operational procedures.

Requirements

• Previous experience within a transport or logistics environment, with a sound understanding of the Working Time Directive and EU Drivers' Hours regulations.
• Demonstrated leadership capability, with the ability to manage, support, and motivate a busy operational team.
• A valid HGV Class 1 (CE) licence and Driver CPC are desirable but not essential.
• Communicate with confidence and clarity at every level, building strong relationships across the business.
• Leverage your detailed knowledge of farms and the local area across Devon and Somerset to support the smooth and efficient running of day-to-day operations.
• Showcase your organisational skills by prioritising tasks and managing a busy workload with ease.
• Demonstrate sharp attention to detail and consistently hit daily deadlines.
• Work collaboratively within a supportive team while also thriving when using your own initiative.
• Utilise your proficiency in MS Office packages: Word, Excel, and Outlook, to stay on top of reporting and communication.
