Job summary

DHL is seeking a Transport Shift Manager to lead our transport operations in Southampton. The role focuses on delivering a high-quality, customer-focused service, managing a team of drivers and agency crews, and ensuring safety and compliance across the fleet.

You will drive performance through coaching, conduct regular briefs and reviews, and coordinate with OMS guidelines. The position is permanent, full-time with a starting rate of £37,500 per year.

Responsibilities

• Deliver shift operation with efficient, customer-focused service.
• Manage colleague issues per policies and procedures.
• Lead daily driver and agency crew brief/debrief.
• Ensure driver and fleet legal compliance per standards.
• Induct and train crews on operations and equipment; keep records.
• Manage transport resources for safe, legal operations; conduct walk-around inspections and gatehouse checks.
• Conduct shift briefs and performance dialogues.
• Schedule quarterly 1-2-1s with direct reports (OMS on site).
• Monitor driver performance via Telematics and address discrepancies.
• Complete accident/investigation packs for sign-off at next level.
• Acknowledge under-performers and reward high performance.

Transport Shift Manager Pay Rate: £37,500 Grade: N Contract Type: Permanent (Full-Time) Shift patterns: Week1 - Monday to Friday & Week2 - Sunday to Thursday Location: Southampton, SO53 4ND

WHAT YOU'LL DO

• Accountable for the delivery of all aspects of the shift operation ensuring the delivery of efficient & customer focussed service
• Management of colleague issues in a timely manner, in line with people management policies & procedures
• Responsible for full and effective daily brief/debrief for DHL Drivers and agency crews
• Responsible for driver and fleet legal compliance in accordance with DHL Asset Management Centre of Excellence standards
• Ensuring all crews (including agency) are appropriately inducted, trained and familarised with both operations and equipment and accurate records kept
• Managing transport resources to ensure safe & legal operations, enforce walk around inspections, load security and gatehouse checks
• Conduct effective shift briefs and performance dialogues
• To schedule, prepare and conduct quarterly 1-2-1's with all direct reports in line with OMS guidelines (if only OMS in currently on site)
• Manage Driver performance/behaviours through Telematics to identify any major discrepanies and manage through the appropriate processes
• Ensure accident/investigation packs are completed to a high standard in a timely manner in readiness for sign off at the next level
• Management of under performers and acknowledgment of high performance in line with Company policies, procedures and processes

WHAT YOU'LL BRING

• Must have Transport experience with fleet management
• Preferably License holder
• Previous Management experience
• Can lead from the front, winning hearts and minds and providing coaching and mentorship
• Have excellent organisational and problem-solving skills
• Aren't afraid to roll their sleeves up and get stuck in when needed
