Job summary

InPost is seeking a Transport Shift Manager to lead our Coventry transport operations on shift. You will oversee a team of drivers and transport staff, ensure safe, timely and cost-efficient deliveries, and maintain high service standards across the depot.

You will work with operations, maintenance and customer service, using Microlise to monitor hours, defects and KPI performance, and drive continuous improvement in route planning, safety, and compliance.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in transport management or logistics in a fast-paced environment.
• CPC holder desirable but not essential.
• Strong expertise in drivers hours regulations, vehicle defect reporting, and health & safety compliance.

Responsibilities

• Take full ownership of ensuring drivers report vehicle defects and maintain safety and reliability across the fleet.
• Monitor drivers' hours regulations using Microlise to ensure compliance and efficiency.
• Collaborate with operations, customer service and maintenance to drive improvements.
• Oversee end-to-end transport requirements; optimize route planning, scheduling and resource allocation.
• Lead the transport team during your shift and coordinate workflows to maximise system use.
• Drive KPI targets with data-driven insights and lead change initiatives.
• Provide 24-hour incident support during disruptions.
• Lead health and safety management within the team and ensure policy compliance.
• Maintain the transport fleet and ensure regulatory compliance and reliability.
• Stay updated on forthcoming legislation and industry standards.

• Take full ownership of ensuring that all drivers promptly report and accurately record vehicle defects, maintaining the highest standards of safety, reliability, and vehicle maintenance across the InPost fleet.
• Monitor and enforce strict compliance with drivers' hours regulations using the industry leading Microlise transport management system. Leverage Microlise's advanced tracking and reporting capabilities to ensure driver safety, regulatory compliance, and maximised operational efficiency.
• Collaborate closely with internal and external stakeholders including operations, customer service, and maintenance teams to drive continuous improvement initiatives. Foster a culture of innovation, teamwork, and enhanced productivity across the transport department.
• Oversee and support the comprehensive management of InPost's end to end transport requirements. Utilise Microlise and other cutting-edge tools to optimise route planning, scheduling, and resource allocation, ensuring timely and cost-effective delivery performance.
• Act as the central point of contact and strong leadership presence for the transport team during your shift. Communicate effectively to coordinate workflows, resolve issues, and drive optimal use of systems and resources.
• Take an active role in monitoring and achieving KPI targets, providing data driven insights and championing change initiatives that improve operational performance and customer satisfaction.
• Deliver critical 24 hour incident support during operational disruptions or system failures. Swiftly investigate issues, provide timely updates to key stakeholders, and implement solutions to protect InPost's reputation and maintain service excellence.
• Lead proactive health and safety management within your team, prioritising employee wellbeing and ensuring full compliance with all InPost policies, industry regulations, and legal requirements.
• Manage and maintain the transport fleet with meticulous attention to detail, ensuring that all vehicle operations are compliant with legal standards and industry best practices, minimising risk and maximising fleet reliability.
• Continuously monitor and review forthcoming legislation, regulatory changes, and industry standards, ensuring that InPost's transport operations remain fully compliant and are prepared for evolving requirements. Proven experience in transport management or logistics, ideally within a fast paced, dynamic environment.
• CPC holder (desirable but not essential)
• Strong expertise in drivers' hours regulations, vehicle defect reporting, and health & safety compliance.
• Proficiency with transport management systems, particularly Microlise, is highly desirable.
• Excellent leadership skills with the ability to motivate, manage, and develop a diverse transport team.
• Exceptional communication skills and a collaborative approach to working with multiple stakeholders.
• Quick thinker and problem solver, able to handle high pressure situations with calm and efficiency.
• A passion for continuous improvement and a commitment to delivering best in class transport operations.
