Job summary

Hovis Bakeries is seeking a Transport Shift Manager to lead a team of drivers and transport coordinators, ensuring safe delivery and collection of goods in line with legal and company standards. The role covers day, night, and weekend shifts with flexible patterns in the short term.

The candidate will manage performance, ensure compliance with health and safety, and contribute to continuous improvement in a fast-paced FMCG environment.

Qualifications

• 2–5 years experience managing teams in transport/logistics.
• Experience in manufacturing, FMCG, or distribution environments.

Responsibilities

• Set goals, targets and expectations for Drivers and Transport Coordinators on shifts.
• Ensure daily debriefs and daily performance updates to Transport Management Team.
• Ensure compliance with EH&S, legal and company standards on all shifts.
• Optimize labour utilisation using scheduling systems and labour flexibility.
• Recruit, train and develop Drivers and Coordinators reflecting company values.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives to meet targets.
• Address service issues promptly and escalate where needed.

Job description

We are looking for a Transport Shift Manager with proven management experience within the FMCG sector, preferably within the Food sector. You will be responsible for leading and managing a team of drivers and transport coordinators to ensure the safe delivery and/or collection of all goods to/from our customers and in accordance with all legal and company requirements.

In the short term the working pattern will be flexible covering days, nights and weekends.

Key Accountabilities

• To set clear goals, targets and expectations of performance for all Drivers and Transport Coordinators on your shifts to ensure all relevant KPIs are met.


• To ensure all drivers receive a daily debrief and the Transport Management Team are updated daily on performance.


• To ensure all shift members are aware of and comply with environmental, health and safety, legal and company standards and that all shifts operate in compliance with the team.


• To ensure optimal labour utilisation, by making best use of the Company Scheduling Systems and labour flexibility.


• To recruit, train and develop Drivers and Coordinators who reflect the Company's values and who possess the necessary knowledge, skills, attitudes and qualifications to perform effectively.


• To execute continuous improvement action plans (e.g. PDP initiatives, productivity improvements etc), to ensure that targets are achieved.


• To ensure that any service issues arising are addressed promptly and where appropriate, escalated as required.

The Right Person

• 2 - 5 years experience managing teams within a transport, logistics, distribution, or operational environment


• Experience working within a manufacturing, FMCG, or distribution environment.


• Strong knowledge of transport compliance and health & safety requirements.


• Ability to build good working relationships with employees, customers and suppliers.


• Good leadership skills with a confident, open and honest style of communicating.


• A strong customer focus, always willing to go the extra mile to deliver a good service.


• An analytical thinker, capable of making effective decisions in a fast paced environment.
