Job summary

Menzies Distribution Solutions Ltd is recruiting for a Transport Planning Apprentice based at our planning site in Coalville. You will study the Level 2 Traffic Operator apprenticeship while learning how to plan deliveries on time and cost-effectively, optimizing fleet use and driver hours in line with WTD legislation.

The role covers maintenance of the Transport Management System, resource planning, and developing strong customer relationships, with a Monday to Friday schedule and 40-hour

Qualifications

• GCSE English and Maths (grade 9‑4) is required.
• IT literate with basic software skills.
• Customer service experience is preferred.
• Good geographical knowledge is desirable.
• Strong communication and organisational skills are essential.

Job description

Transport Planning Apprentice

We are recruiting for a Transport Planning Apprentice, based at our planning site in Coalville.Whilst studying the Level 2 Traffic Operator apprenticeship course, also learning how to arrange the delivery of the customer’s product on time and in full using the most cost-effective means possible and best use of available resources, whilst complying with Transport Legislation and Health & Safety.Maximizing the utilization of the Menzies Fleet through efficient planning of deliveries and collections as well as maximizing utilisation of Menzies drivers in line with current driver’s hours and WTD legislation.

The Details

• Annual wage:£20,000 a year
• Schedule -Monday - Friday
• Hours Per Week: 40 Hours
• Start Time: 08:00
• You will be paid on a monthly basis

Apprenticeship Details:

• Training course -Traffic Operator
• Duration -13 Months

Key Duties and Accountabilities (will include but not be limited to)

• Maintenance and Management of the Transport Management System (TMS).
• Ensure effective and efficient use of driver and vehicle resources.
• Ensuring customer requirements are administered.
• Liaise, support and develop effective working relationships with internal and external customers
• Promote effective and efficient standards of work, in order to comply with transport legislation, company policy and Health & Safety legislation.
• Managing Driver hours, WTD rules.
• Preparing and submitting various KPI reports.
• Undertake any other duties that are reasonably requested.

Key Experience and Qualifications:

• Experience of working in the Transport industry (desirable)
• Good standard of education (GCSE English and Math's grade 9-4)
• IT literate
• Customer Service experience
• Good geographical knowledge
• Financial awareness

Technical skills and behavioral competencies:

• Good communication skills are essential with the ability to express empathy with customers
• Excellent written and verbal skills
• Strong geographical knowledge (desirable)
• Good 'people skills' for working with a range of colleagues and customers
