Job description

We are currently looking for a Transport Planner (Maternity Cover) to join our fantastic team at Tarmac Birtley in Birtley, Chester-le-Street, Co Durham. This position is a fixed term contract for 12 months providing maternity cover. As well as Birtley and Chester-le-Street, this role is commutable from Gateshead, Newcastle upon Tyne, Consett, Durham, Sunderland, Middlesbrough, Hartlepool, Darlington, South Shields, Wallsend, Longbenton and the surrounding areas.

In the role of Transport Planner you will be working 37.5 hours per week Monday to Friday starting at 7:30am with 1 hour lunch. Following successful completion of training you will have the option for hybrid working, meaning you can work part of your week at home.

Role Responsibility

Reporting to the Distribution Supervisor, the role of Transport Planner will work with multidisciplinary teams with both internal and external stakeholders including customers, customer service, planning and haulage drivers. The role will also be responsible for:

• Handling of inbound and outbound calls
• Processing customer orders
• Raising any safety concerns immediately
• Proactively chasing and informing of changes
• Effective communication with key stakeholders
• Accurate recording of data
• Upholding company values
• Effective management of assets and materials
• Sourcing and management of external assets
• Effective cost management

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate for the role of Transport Planner will already have proven experience working in a hectic Planning role but we welcome applications from those who enjoy working in a busy, challenging customer-focused environment dealing with multiple stakeholders.

Suitable candidates for the role of Transport Planner will also have:

• Excellent planning and organisational skills
• Excellent time management skills and the ability to multitask and manage expectations successfully
• Proven customer service and telephone skills
• Ability to communicate with stakeholders at all levels
• Proven teamwork capability
• Speed and efficiency in making decisions
• IT literacy
• Good geographical knowledge of the North East region (preferred)
• Knowledge of transport law (preferred but not essential)
