Job summary

Irlam Associates are recruiting a Transport Planner on behalf of an established transport and logistics business at its Bristol depot. This role will involve planning and coordinating collection and delivery schedules for a mixed fleet, allocating drivers and vehicles, and using transport management systems to keep bookings accurate while maintaining high customer service.

Qualifications

• Experience in transport planning, coordination or transport administration.
• Strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise changing workloads.
• Clear communication skills with a customer-focused approach.
• Good IT skills; familiarity with transport management systems is beneficial.
• Understanding of drivers’ hours and transport compliance.

Responsibilities

• Plan and coordinate collection and delivery schedules for a mixed fleet of vehicles.
• Allocate drivers, vehicles and trailers to meet customer requirements.
• Identify backload opportunities to maximise vehicle utilisation.
• Use transport management systems and customer portals to maintain accurate plans and bookings.
• Communicate with drivers, customers and colleagues, providing updates on schedules and delays.
• Work with the workshop to factor vehicle servicing and availability into transport plans.
• Ensure routes account for drivers’ permitted driving and duty hours.
• Support customer bookings, quotations and clear handovers within the transport team.

Transport Planner

Location: Bristol
Salary: A 6-Month FTC based on a salary of £29,741 per annum
Contract: Six-month fixed-term contract, with potential to remain with the business based on performance.

Irlam Associates are recruiting a Transport Planner on behalf of an established transport and logistics business at its Bristol depot.

This is a great opportunity for someone with experience in transport planning, coordination or administration who wants to develop their career within a busy transport operation. You will support the planning of collections and deliveries, helping ensure vehicles and drivers are used efficiently while maintaining high standards of customer service.

Key responsibilities
