Overview

Transport Planner – Newark

Salary: £30,000 - £35,000 (flexible depending on experience)

Hours: Monday - Friday, Nights, flexible start times

We are recruiting for an experienced Transport Planner to join a large haulage business that specialises in general haulage and pallet network operations throughout the UK. They are seeking a Transport Planner to support the current transport operation in the management of route planning across a general haulage and automotive division.

Responsibilities
  • Route planning for full load, general haulage and pallet network sector
  • Use geographical knowledge to maximise the fleet’s ability to work
  • Supervise and manage driver workloads
  • Respond to driver queries face to face and via telephone
  • Report and escalate any tracker errors to the Transport Planning Supervisor
  • Ensure drivers are up to date with road conditions and manage exceptions to keep deliveries on time
  • Liaise with the Transport Planning Supervisor regarding regular maintenance intervals
  • Prioritise customer service while maintaining commercial awareness for profitability
  • Brief drivers on start times and daily activities prior to shifts
  • Review driver routes to maximise efficiency
  • Keep customers informed of failed services or significant delays
  • Provide the communication link between customers and drivers
  • Manage driver workloads in line with Working Time Directive and driving hours
  • Ensure every customer receives excellent customer service
Qualifications
  • Previous experience within a Transport operation in a planner position
  • Experience of transport planning for a collection and backhaul network is desirable
  • Pallet network route planning experience is highly desirable
  • Experience in a fast-paced transport position
  • Experience working to revenue targets within HGV route planning
  • Experience using system-based planning tools
  • Strong knowledge of tachograph regulations
  • Strong administrative, customer service and communication skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and to deadlines
  • Competent decision making
  • Good geographical knowledge
