Job summary

Great Bear (Part of the Culina Group) is hiring a Transport Planner in Sheffield for a full-time permanent role. You will oversee day-to-day transport planning, manage a busy operation and provide cost-effective solutions to customers. Salary is £31,365 per annum with mon–fri, 8am–4pm hours.

The role requires experience in busy transport environments, strong problem solving and communication skills, and the ability to work under pressure. SAP/BPCS/ Road Runner knowledge is advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Schedule orders across multiple warehouse facilities and sites UK-wide.
  • Plan daily workload for a fleet of vehicles, on-site and off-site.
  • Handle queries via telephone, fax and email from customers and hauliers.
  • Liaise with Traffic and Administration to maintain performance standards.
  • Maintain and update spreadsheets and databases for customer reports.
  • Identify and report issues, and communicate resolutions promptly.
  • Support fleet and driver training teams as required.
  • Complete pre- and post-briefs for driver shifts and de-briefs.

Job Description

We would like to present you with an exciting opportunity for a Transport Planner to join our friendly team at our Sheffield site on a full time permanent basis!

Salary: £31,365 per annum.

Working hours: Monday-Friday, 8am-4pm.

As a Transport Planner you will oversee the day to day planning of the transport operation. A highly motivated and driven individual, you will be experienced at working in a busy transport department, able to deal with day to day challenges and provide cost effective solutions to the customer.

Key Duties of a Transport Planner
  • Subcontracting and planning orders out of multiple warehouse facilities and manufacturing sites across the UK.
  • Planning daily workload for a fleet: vehicles based on and off site.
  • Dealing with queries and issues by telephone, fax and email from our customers, sub-contract hauliers and warehousing sites.
  • Liaising with Traffic and Administration teams to ensure the highest standards of performance are maintained at all times.
  • Maintaining, creating and updating spreadsheets and databases for customer reports.
  • Reporting problems and dealing with issues and any queries that arise.
  • Support the fleet and driver training team as and when required.
  • Complete pre and post de-brief for all driver shifts.
  • Deliver effective, professional and timely internal and external communications.
Qualifications
  • Be able to demonstrate a high level of transport planning expertise in a busy and demanding environment.
  • Have excellent problem solving, analytical and organisational skills.
  • Be able to make decisions under pressure, and to a tight timescale.
  • Have a flexible and adaptable approach to working in order to meet the requirements of the business, particularly at peak periods during the year.
  • Be able to communicate well at all levels within the business.
  • Have the ability to identify and suggest improvements to benefit both the Company and our customer.
  • Be a highly motivated individual able to work as part of a small friendly team, and under own initiative.
  • Knowledge of SAP, BPCS and Road Runner would be advantageous.
