Job summary

Great Bear is recruiting a Transport Supervisor to join our Skelmersdale site on a full‑time permanent basis. You will be responsible for the 24/7 transport operations, supporting the Transport Manager and supervising the Transport Supervisors to keep costs in line with budgets.

Working hours are 4 on 4 off nights, 6pm to 6am. The role includes coordinating drivers and subcontract haulage, optimising backloads, and maintaining strong relationships with customers, hauliers and internal teams to

Qualifications

• Has previous transport and office experience in busy environments.
• Experience in transport policy & strategy development and master planning.
• Knowledge of Road Runner Pro, Tachomaster and Falcon is advantageous.
• Planning and organising skills with a high level of numeracy.
• Good IT skills including Microsoft Office packages.

Responsibilities

• Communicate with Transport Manager and Planning Teams to maximise backloads and cost efficiency.
• Plan drivers and sub-contract haulage for deliveries across multiple sites.
• Act as escalation point for queries by phone, fax and email from customers and hauliers.
• Build and maintain relationships with team members, vendors, hauliers and partners.
• Liaise with traffic and administration teams to maintain high performance standards.
• Report problems and resolve issues promptly.
• Inform operational teams of route plan changes and network updates.
• Identify cost-savings opportunities through route changes.

Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for aTransport Supervisor to join our team in Skelmersdale on a full time permanent basis!

Working Hours:4 on 4 off Nights, 6pm-6am.

Salary:£35,000 per annum.

As a Transport Supervisor you willbe responsible for the 24/7 Transport operations, managing the Transport Supervisors and supporting the Transport Manager in ensuring that costs are controlled in line with budget / forecast expectations.

Job responsibilities of a Transport Supervisor include:

• Communicating with Transport Manager and Transport Planning Teams to maximise backloads, identifying cost saving opportunities, trailer utilisation and cost efficiency.
• Ensuring effective planning and utilisation of drivers and sub-contract haulage for deliveries out of multiple warehousing sites.
• Acting as a point of escalation to deal with queries by telephone, fax and e-mail from our customer, sub contract haulier’s and warehousing sites.
• Responsible for building and maintaining a good working relationship with team members, vendors, hauliers and partners.
• Liaising with the GBD traffic and administration teams to ensure the highest standards of performance are maintained at all times.
• Reporting problems and dealing with any issues/queries that may arise.
• Daily communication with operational teams, vendors and customers regarding network/route plan changes.
• Continual improvement for cost reductions, identifying where cost can be saved from tactical route changes.

Qualifications

• Have previous transport and office experience and be able to demonstrate a high level of transport knowledge and expertise in a busy and demanding environment.
• Experience of transport policy and strategy development along with experience in master planning and a good knowledge of transportation and planning systems.
• Knowledge of Road Runner Pro, Tachomaster and Falcon would be advantageous.
• Planning and organising skills, high level of numeracy.
• Good IT skills including Microsoft office packages.
