Job description

Overview

As a Transport Operator, you'll help maintain the smooth, efficient running of our distribution network, ensuring productivity targets, agreed key customer service levels and KPIs are achieved within budget. You'll be responsible for managing Partnership and agency Drivers over 24 hours a day, 7 days a week transport operations, maintaining full compliance under current EU driving regulations and the Working Time Directive, ensuring achievement of productivity targets, health and safety procedures, and treating partners fairly. You will deputise for the Transport Section Manager in their absence.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

• Ensuring the health & safety of all those working in the transport team is top priority and the appropriate procedures are adhered to.
• Brief and debrief Partnership and agency drivers at the start and end of their shift.
• Maintain good housekeeping standards.
• Liaise with warehouse teams to ensure on‑time load completion.
• Ensure the operation and those working in it remain fully compliant under EU driving regulations and the Working Time Directive.
• Effectively manage department resources and optimise the use of establishment hours, encouraging partner flexibility to deliver efficient transport operations.
• Support the management team with their partners and create an environment for development.

Qualifications

• Excellent literacy and numeracy skills.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Previous supply chain experience.
• Previous transport experience.
• High degree of attention to detail and accuracy.

Desirable Skills / Experience

• Good working knowledge of IT systems (email/Google programmes/Paragon).
• Manager CPC qualification.
• Familiar with vehicle telematics systems, preferably Microlise.
• Familiar with transport planning and execution system, preferably Microlise or Paragon.
• Familiar with transport compliance software, particularly FTA Vision.
• Familiarity with fleet management software, particularly JAMA.

Benefits

• Evening Premium: £3.00 per hour for time worked between 18:00 – 22:00.
• Night Premium: £4.00 per hour for time worked between 22:00 – 06:00.
