Job summary

Bis Henderson Recruitment is recruiting for a Transport Manager to lead a busy 3PL transport operation, managing a fleet of 38 Class 1 vehicles in a fast-paced environment. This hands-on leadership role ensures safety, compliance and efficiency while driving service performance and cost control.

The successful candidate will hold a CPC, be adept with transport systems and data, and translate operational insight into decisive action to support customers and internal stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in a Transport Manager or similar leadership role within a fast-paced logistics, distribution or 3PL operation.
• A valid CPC qualification is essential.
• Strong knowledge of transport legislation, fleet compliance, driver hours and operational best practice.
• Confident user of transport management systems, compliance platforms and Microsoft Office, with the ability to interpret and present data effectively.
• Strong analytical skills, with the ability to use data to improve service, cost and operational performance.
• Excellent communication and people management skills, with the ability to build strong relationships across the operation.

Responsibilities

• Take ownership of the day-to-day transport operation, ensuring legal compliance, service excellence and operational efficiency across the fleet.
• Manage the transport operation for a fleet of 40 Class 1 vehicles within a fast-paced 3PL environment.
• Ensure full compliance with operator licence obligations, DVSA requirements, driver hours, Working Time Directive and company policies.
• Lead, coach and support drivers and transport colleagues to maintain high standards of safety, service and performance.
• Oversee vehicle compliance, maintenance planning, defect reporting, incident management and fleet security.
• Monitor transport KPIs, analyse operational data and produce clear reports to identify trends, risks and improvement opportunities.
• Investigate accidents, incidents and infringements, implementing corrective actions to reduce repeat issues.
• Work closely with internal stakeholders and customers to ensure service levels are achieved in line with operational and commercial targets.
