Job summary

Birmingham City Council is seeking a proactive Transport Manager (CPC) to join the Street Scene Fleet Management team. In this permanent role, you will ensure transport operations meet legal and safety standards, manage vehicle availability, and provide guidance to drivers.

You will liaise with the fleet department and external partners to deliver cost-effective services that keep Birmingham moving. The role requires a CPC qualification, a full clean driving licence, and significant transport

Qualifications

• CPC qualification for transport management.
• Full, clean driving licence.
• Significant experience in transport management, ideally in waste collection.
• Experience working with operational drivers and fleet departments.
• Strong communication skills with drivers and workshop staff.
• Knowledge of health and safety regulations, including risk assessments for vehicle operation and accident reporting.

Responsibilities

• Ensure transport operations comply with legal, safety and company standards.
• Monitor tachograph regulations and driving licence requirements.
• Oversee vehicle availability and coordinate maintenance and repairs.
• Provide guidance and training to drivers on compliance and best practices.
• Act as SME for management and drivers on transport regulations.
• Ensure adequate vehicles are available daily to meet operational needs.
• Coordinate with fleet workshop to allocate and track vehicle availability.
• Schedule servicing and urgent repairs with internal and external providers.
• Track maintenance schedules and roadworthiness of all vehicles.
• Maintain records of defect reports and compliance documentation.
