Winchester College, a globally recognised independent boarding school, is seeking to appoint a highly skilled and experienced Transport Manager for term-time only. This essential role is responsible for the comprehensive oversight and efficient operation of all passenger transport and parking services within the College.

Reporting to the Director of Operations, the successful candidate will play a critical role in managing our diverse fleet of vehicles and leading a dedicated team of drivers and a Minibus Cleaner/Technician. Our transport services are fundamental to supporting the College's extensive academic, sporting, cultural, and community activities for our 800 pupils.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Operational Management: Receiving, evaluating, and fulfilling transport requests; allocating drivers and vehicles; managing external hires; and ensuring optimal resource utilisation.
  • Safety and Compliance: Implementing and upholding stringent transport safety protocols, including passenger manifests and compliance with all relevant legal and College policies.
  • Fleet Management: Overseeing vehicle servicing, MOT certification, permits, and maintaining meticulous records. Recommending vehicle replacements or additions and managing insurance claims.
  • Team Leadership: Planning, coordinating, and managing the Minibus Drivers and Cleaner/Technician, ensuring high standards of training, performance, and adherence to legislation.
  • Administrative Oversight: Managing payroll timesheets, providing departmental recharging statistics, and overseeing parking permit allocation.

Candidate Profile:

We are seeking a highly organised, analytical, and proactive individual with exceptional communication skills, capable of engaging effectively with staff at all levels and external stakeholders. You must demonstrate the ability to manage complex logistics, lead teams through change, and maintain composure under pressure.

  • A full, clean UK driving licence.
  • Willingness to undertake further specialist training, including Category D1, MiDAS, the ISBA Minibus Compliance Course, and RoSPA.
  • Demonstrable experience in leading and managing teams within a transport or similar operational environment.
  • Practical experience in driving larger vehicles (e.g., minibuses) and an understanding of vehicle maintenance.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel and Outlook.

This role demands a process-driven approach and a commitment to fostering an inclusive culture. If you possess these qualities and are seeking a significant role within a prestigious educational institution, we encourage your application.
