Biffa Group in Welham Green is seeking a Transport Manager to lead a small fleet, oversee the Traffic Office and ensure health, safety, environmental and operator licence compliance while delivering excellent customer service.

You will direct dispatchers and drivers, manage KPIs, monitor costs, and drive improvements in efficiency, safety and profitability. A strong CPC and UK travel willingness are important.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in traffic or logistics management with cost control and leadership.
• Strong knowledge of transport, environmental and health and safety legislation.
• International CPC and strong commercial acumen.
• Willingness to travel across the UK.

Responsabilités

• Provide leadership and clear work instructions to traffic dispatchers, drivers and operatives; review depot KPIs and drive improvements in service, safety and profitability.
• Manage vehicle operations, ensuring vehicles are used safely and within weight regulations; liaise with the fleet team for seamless operations.
• Ensure adherence to transport and environmental legislation, including management of third‑party insurance claims.
• Support cost control initiatives, drive operational efficiency and identify opportunities to reduce costs and exceed budget expectations.
• Enforce Health and Safety procedures, including near‑miss reporting and emergency procedures, and review near‑miss reports to maintain a first‑class customer experience.
• Complete all role‑related administrative tasks, including worksheets and tachograph records.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external customers through proactive and effective communication.

A quick look at the role

The Transport Manager will efficiently and effectively manage a fleet of 8+ vehicles at our Welham Green Depot.

The role will also assist with managing the day-to-day operations of the Traffic Office, ensuring health and safety, environmental and operator licence compliance, while delivering first-class customer service.

Your core responsibilities

• Provide leadership and clear work instructions to traffic dispatchers, drivers and operatives, review depot KPIs and drive improvements in service, safety and profitability.
• Manage vehicle operations, ensuring vehicles are used safely, wheel security requirements are met and gross weight limits are adhered to, while liaising with the fleet team to ensure seamless operations.
• Ensure adherence to transport and environmental legislation, including the management of third‑party insurance claims.
• Support cost control initiatives, drive operational efficiency and identify opportunities to reduce costs and exceed budget expectations.
• Enforce Health and Safety procedures, including near‑miss reporting and emergency procedures, and review near‑miss reports to maintain a first‑class customer experience.
• Complete all role‑related administrative tasks, including worksheets and tachograph records.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with both internal and external customers through proactive and effective communication.

Our essential requirements

• Proven experience in traffic or logistics management, including resource management, cost control and operational leadership within unionised, multi‑shift environments.
• In‑depth understanding of transport, environmental and health and safety legislation, with strong knowledge of lean methodology and KPIs.
• International CPC, strong commercial acumen, excellent communication and planning abilities.
• Familiarity with the local area and willingness to travel for business needs across the UK.
