Job summary

Davy is seeking a Training & Competence Manager to shape and oversee the firm’s T&C framework, supporting advisers and certified individuals to deliver high-quality, compliant financial advice.

Based in Belfast with a hybrid working model, you will drive continuous improvement of capability, manage competency sign-off, and report trends to senior management while aligning with FCA requirements and Consumer Duty principles.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years' experience within the wealth management, financial planning, investment management or financial advice sector.
  • Strong understanding of a Training & Competence role within Wealth Management.
  • Excellent understanding of wealth management processes, FCA Training & Competence requirements, Consumer Duty principles, Certification Regime requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Training & Competence Framework, driving continuous improvement in adviser capability and client outcomes.
  • Oversee competency assessment and supervision, ensuring sign-off of qualified advisers and staff.
  • Regulatory & Certification Oversight, maintaining qualifications and fitness and propriety processes.
  • Management Information and Reporting, delivering monthly/quarterly T&C metrics to senior management.

A strong wealth management background is essential for this role, which is responsible for overseeing and enhancing the quality of advice delivered across the business while ensuring excellent client outcomes and regulatory compliance. The Training & Competence Manager will lead the implementation, oversight and continuous improvement of the firm's Training & Competence framework, supporting the development of advisers and certified individuals through coaching, assessment and professional development. By leveraging deep industry knowledge and experience of the advice process, the role ensures that client-facing professionals maintain the skills, qualifications, behaviours and standards required to deliver high-quality advice, meet regulatory and CPD obligations, and foster a culture of continuous learning and professional excellence.

Key responsibilities of this position will include:
Training & Competence Framework
  • Drive continuous improvement in advice quality by identifying best practice, enhancing adviser capability and supporting the consistent delivery of excellent client outcomes.
  • Maintain and continuously enhance the firm's Training & Competence Scheme.
  • Ensure ongoing compliance with regulatory requirements and industry best practice.
  • Conduct regular reviews of T&C policies, procedures and competency standards.
  • Recommend improvements to training and assessment methodologies.
Competency Assessment & Supervision
  • Oversee the assessment and sign-off of competent advisers and certified staff.
  • Identify skills and knowledge gaps and implement development plans.
  • Ensure appropriate supervision arrangements are in place for trainees and newly appointed advisers.
  • Conduct competence assessments through:
  1. File reviews
  2. Observation sessions
  3. Client meeting review
  4. Knowledge testing
  5. Behavioural assessments
Regulatory & Certification Oversight
  • Monitor compliance with applicable certification and conduct requirements.
  • Ensure all regulated individuals maintain required qualifications and professional standards.
  • Oversee annual fitness and propriety assessments.
  • Manage annual competence sign-off processes.
Management Information and Reporting
  • Produce monthly and quarterly T&C reporting.
  • Present competency trends and risk indicators to senior management committees.
  • Monitor:
  1. Adviser competency status
  2. CPD completion
  3. File review scores
  4. Quality assurance outcomes
  5. Regulatory training completion
  6. Competency exceptions
About you

We are looking for somebodywho has the following background and skills:

  • Minimum 5 years' experience within the wealth management, financial planning, investment management or financial advice sector.
  • Strong understanding of a Training & Competence role within Wealth Management.

Excellent understanding of:

  1. Wealth management and financial planning advice processes.
  2. FCA Training & Competence requirements.
  3. Consumer Duty principles.
  4. Certification Regime requirements.
  • Strong coaching and development skills.
  • Excellent analytical and reporting capability.
  • Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills.
Desirable
  • Client facing experience in the provision of advice.
  • Experience supporting advisory, investment management and pension businesses.
  • Chartered Financial Planner or Chartered Wealth Manager status.
  • Experience overseeing and implementing T&C schemes.
  • Experience of adviser file review and competency assessment frameworks.>
  • Experience of managing or supervising a team.
