Job summary

Transport for Wales is recruiting a Train Manager based at Machynlleth depot to ensure trains run safely and on time while assisting customers with information. You will handle delays, enforce safety rules, check tickets, and provide accurate information to passengers, drivers, station staff and Control Office as required.

Welsh language skills are welcomed and TfW supports learning Welsh; training will be provided to maintain high safety standards.

Qualifications

• Ability to problem solve and make logical decisions while consulting with colleagues.
• Ability to deal with difficult/stressful/conflict situations.
• Ability to attain operating rules and competence with motivation to retain that competence.
• Ability to provide good, accurate information to customers and colleagues.

Responsibilities

• Dealing with unexpected delays and emergencies and reporting delays in real time.
• Ensuring duties are carried out in accordance with the Safety Responsibility Statement for the post.
• Adhering to all rules, procedures and acting on instructions; promoting a positive safety culture and awareness.
• Uphold revenue protection through checking customer tickets and travel documentation; ensuring validity for the journey, selling tickets where appropriate and addressing customers who do not have tickets or are unable to pay on the train.
• Managing the on-train customer service consistently by providing good, regular and accurate information to customers, the train driver, station staff, the Control Office and others as necessary.
