Job summary

NRS Dounreay is recruiting Health Physics Surveyor Trainees to support the decommissioning programme and build radiological protection and safety skills through a structured 2-year training programme, including an NVQ in Radiological Protection.

Successful candidates join Site Services as Trainee Health Physics Surveyors, with assessment against Dounreay standards and a portfolio of evidence from training modules and certificates.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 3 National 5s at grade C or equivalent, including English, Mathematics and one Science subject.
• Open, flexible approach to work and prepared to undergo training.
• The ability to communicate effectively with staff/contractors at all levels.
• Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team.
• Need to be designated as a classified worker and 18+ on 1 January 2027 per Ionising Radiation Regulations 2017.
• Post-specific physical capability assessment.

Responsibilities

• Undertake radiation and contamination surveying on and offsite per routine monitoring programme.
• Change air sample and duct filter papers and count filters to determine activity.
• Support site operations by monitoring radiological conditions and reporting results.
• Undertake surveying in areas with higher contamination wearing PPE/RPE.
• Review and support production of health physics documentation.
• Assist with familiarisation and training of health physics staff.
• Participate in emergency on-call arrangements.
• Perform responsibilities of local/management appointments relevant to post.
