Job summary

Distinct Consultancy Group in Wythenshawe is recruiting a Trainee Freight Forwarder to join a growing team and develop a career in freight and logistics. The role offers exposure to multiple departments and a clear path for progression.

You will learn to coordinate air and sea shipments, handle bookings, tracking, documentation and customs procedures while supporting customer enquiries and collaborating with the Sales team to deliver excellent service.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate air and sea freight shipments, including imports and exports.
• Assist with bookings, tracking, documentation and customs procedures.
• Communicate with shipping lines, airlines, carriers and overseas agents.
• Support customer enquiries and collaborate with Sales to deliver service.
• Help prepare quotations and learn pricing and commercial requirements.
• Develop understanding of DGR and handling procedures.
• Maintain shipment records and KPI information.
• Monitor shipment costs, profitability and service performance.
• Work with UK and overseas offices to ensure efficient handling.
• Support day-to-day operations of the UK business.

Trainee Freight Forwarder - Wythenshawe - £25,000 - 37.5hr Week + Career Progression

My client a well established Freight Forwarder is looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Trainee Freight Forwarder to join their growing team and develop a career within the freight and logistics industry.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to start their career in logistics within a varied role offering exposure to multiple departments.

Key Responsibilities as Trainee Freight Forwarder

• Learn to coordinate air and sea freight shipments, covering both imports and exports.
• Assist with bookings, shipment tracking, transport documentation, customs procedures and insurance.
• Communicate with shipping lines, airlines, carriers, subcontractors and overseas agents.
• Support customer enquiries and work alongside the Sales Department to deliver excellent customer service.
• Assist with preparing quotations and developing an understanding of pricing and commercial requirements.
• Learn about internal sales and identifying suitable solutions to meet customer needs.
• Develop an understanding of Dangerous Goods Regulations (DGR) and relevant handling procedures.
• Assist with resolving customer queries and complaints in line with company procedures and BIFA terms and conditions.
• Maintain accurate shipment records, job files and KPI information.
• Learn to monitor shipment costs, profitability and service performance.
• Work closely with UK colleagues and overseas offices to ensure shipments are handled efficiently.
• Support administrative processes and the day-to-day operations of the UK business.
• Develop an understanding of how to deliver cost-effective solutions without compromising service quality.

• Previous freight forwarding experience is desirable but not essential.
