Job summary

Forterra Building Products Ltd is seeking a Trainee Estimator for our Hoveringham site (Bison team). The role focuses on producing quotations and placing orders across four disciplines: Commercial Estimating, HBS Growth, Lightweight Facades, and Bespoke Estimating.

Key activities include accurate quotations, cost parameter awareness, and collaboration with Contracts/Production/Drawing teams to meet customer requirements and resolve queries.

Qualifications

• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, etc.).
• Highly organised with excellent time management and multi-tasking ability.
• A collaborative team player who can work independently with initiative.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• GCSE Maths and English at grade C or above; strong numeracy and literacy.
• Ability to read, interpret and work from technical drawings, plans and specifications.

Responsibilities

• Timely and accurate production of quotations for precast concrete products and lightweight facades.
• Understand and work to set pricing parameters for cost management.
• Handle various drawing formats for quotation production.
• Liaise with internal Contracts/Production/Drawing teams to confirm requirements and non-standard details.

About the role

This position is to produce quotations and generate orders for our range of precast concrete products.

Estimators will be trained to specialise in one of the following 4 disciplines. Additional training may also be provided in other disciplines of the technical services estimating department as deemed necessary by the business.

Discipline # 1: Commercial Estimating

Discipline # 2: HBS Growth

Discipline # 3: Lightweight Facades

Discipline # 4: Bespoke Estimating

Key Responsibilities

• QUOTATIONS
  • Timely and accurate production of quotations in line with customers’ requirements for our range of precast concrete products and lightweight facades.
• COST MANAGEMENT
  • To understand & work to set pricing parameters.
• INFORMATION
  • To have the ability to handle variety of drawing formats for quotation production.
• LIAISON
  • Have a strong telephone manner to contact & discuss external parties when establishing quotation requirements to resolve quotation & technical queries. To also liaise with internal Contracts/ Production/Drawing teams to agree customer requirements & any non-standard details.
• COMMUNICATION
  • Effective, regular communication with the Design, Sales and Transport functions. Ensure detailed
