Job summary

Speck & Burke designs and installs specialist laboratory gas systems throughout the UK. In Alva, we are recruiting a Trainee Estimator/Designer to develop skills in design, quantities and quotations while earning structured, practical training.

You will learn to interpret client requirements, prepare bills of quantities and cost estimates, and use AutoCAD for technical drawings as you grow in a supportive, engineering-driven team.

Qualifications

• Ability to read and interpret engineering or construction drawings.
• Experience using AutoCAD gained via college or higher education.
• Good working knowledge of MS 365 applications, especially Excel.

Responsibilities

• Interpret customer requirements from specifications and drawings.
• Use AutoCAD to prepare and amend technical drawings for gas-system installations.
• Identify products, materials and labour for each project.
• Prepare bills of quantities, cost estimates and quotations.
• Assist with client-facing technical and commercial documentation.
• Manage enquiry workload and meet deadlines.
• Develop knowledge of regulations and standards for compressed gases.
• Collaborate with colleagues, clients and suppliers to clarify technical information.
