Warwickshire College Group is recruiting a trainee English lecturer to its English and Maths department. The role combines teaching with a three-year qualification route and offers paid, work-based training with mentoring from an advanced practitioner.

You will teach a rising timetable (15 hours in year 1, increasing to 21 hours by year 3) while completing the Award in Education and Training and Diploma in Teaching, plus course planning and admin duties.

Warwickshire College Group is recruiting a trainee English lecturer to its English and Maths department, on a permanent post that combines teaching with a three-year qualification route. The trainee teaches a rising timetable, from 15 to 21 hours a week, while completing an Award and then a Diploma in Teaching, alongside preparation, assessment and administration. Training is work-based, so the trainee earns while qualifying, with mentoring from an advanced practitioner and a teaching buddy. Visa sponsorship is not available.

What the job involves

• Deliver high-quality maths teaching on a rising timetable: 15 hours a week in year 1, 18 in year 2, 21 in year 3
• Complete the Award in Education and Training in year 1
• Complete the Diploma in Teaching in years 2 and 3
• Develop and produce teaching materials, course planning paperwork, assessment, schemes of work and accurate records
• Work closely with an assigned mentor from the Advanced Practitioner team
• Collaborate with a designated teaching buddy from the Literacy and Numeracy team
• Take part in a cross-college peer support and reflection group
• Use non-contact hours for CPD, shadowing, team teaching and updating subject knowledge
• Carry out administrative tasks for taught programmes and college requirements under the line manager or Head of School
• Engage with college quality processes, including annual lesson observations
• Maintain a safe working environment in line with the HASAW Act and college health and safety policy
• Safeguard and promote the welfare of children and at-risk adults

Qualifications

• Qualification at degree level
• Minimum Level 3 qualification in English or a related subject
