Job summary

SSEN Distribution, part of the SSE group, is recruiting a Trainee Cable Jointer to maintain and upgrade our underground electricity network across communities. It is a hands-on, outdoor role with a structured training programme and a salary progression linked to skills and authorisations.

The 18–24 month programme includes training at our school, buddying with an experienced team, and gaining a nationally recognised qualification while earning along the way. A full UK driving licence is required.

Qualifications

• Be customer-focused with a natural ability to build relationships with customers, stakeholders and the public.
• Hand skills – stripping meter tails, using hand tools, fixing meters to boards.
• Strong focus on Health & Safety and adherence to our motto.”If it's not safe, we don't do it.””

Responsibilities

• Preparing cables and carrying out jointing and terminations.
• Assisting on LV and HV networks.
• Supporting excavation, installation, and repair works; maintenance and refurbishment of substation equipment.
• Working safely and promoting a safety-first culture.
• Delivering excellent customer service during planned and emergency work.
