Job summary

Arriva Northfleet is hiring a Trainee Bus Driver to start a rewarding career serving the local community. You will train at the Northfleet depot, learn the PCV licence process, and begin driving with mentor support to build confidence and route familiarity.

The role emphasises customer service, punctuality, and safety. Shifts start early, with overtime opportunities and progression into management or specialist driving tracks as you gain experience.

Qualifications

• Must be over 18 years of age.
• Have UK driving licence and been driving for a minimum of 6 months.
• No more than 6 points on your licence.
• Must pass an English comprehension test.
• Great people skills and flexibility with shifts.

Responsibilities

• Drive buses on assigned routes safely and professionally.
• Provide excellent customer service to passengers.
• Follow timetables and report delays or incidents.
• Participate in the Arriva Training School during onboarding.
• Work with a mentor during early period and maintain vehicle cleanliness.

Trainee Bus Driver

£12.71 - £19.35 per hour

Pay Rate: £12.71 - £19.35 per hour

During Training (the first 4-6 weeks) - £12.71 per hour

After Training:

• Up to 6 months service: £13.67 per hour; 9+ months service - £16.85 per hour
• Weekends: £14.67 rising to £17.85 after 9+ months service
• Overtime -£13.67 per hour rising to £17.86 per hour after 9+ months service
• Weekend & BH Overtime: £14.67 per hour rising to £19.35 per hour after 9+ months service

The training generally last approx. 4 weeks and will take place at our Northfleet depot, before you then work with a mentor for a further few weeks.

Hours of work and role:

• A rotating shift pattern of 5 days in 7, published up to 6-8 weeks in advance so you can plan around shifts.
• Mornings starting from 04:00, Afternoons start from 12:00 and Evenings from 18:00 on a rotational basis.
• We cannot offer fixed early, afternoon or evenings separately.
• Overtime available.

Requirements:

• Must be over 18 years of age.
• Have UK driving licence and been driving for a minimum of 6 months.
• No more than 6 points on your licence.
• Will need undergo a drug and alcohol test before your assessment.
• Will need to pass an English comprehension test.
• Great people skills.
• Flexibility as your shifts will start as early as 4AM in the morning but will always work no later than 1AM depending on the time that you start.
