Job summary

Arriva Durham County Limited is seeking a Trainee Bus Driver for the Whitby depot. You’ll begin with full training to earn your PCV licence, then work with a mentor as you gain experience on routes across the community.

Shifts cover early mornings to late evenings in a rotating pattern. Acknowledge the important role in helping commuters, students and families get where they need to go with safety and reliability.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Have been driving for a minimum of 6 months.
• No more than 6 points on your licence.
• Will need to pass a drug and alcohol test and an English comprehension test.
• Great people skills and flexibility for early start times.

Responsibilities

• Learn to drive PCV and complete Arriva Training School with mentorship.
• Operate rotating shifts starting as early as 04:00 and finishing by 01:00.
• Provide safe, reliable service and assist customers on routes.

Trainee Bus Driver - Pay Rate: £13.70 - £16.30 per hour

Pay Rate: £13.70 - £16.30 per hour

Weekdays - £13.70 first 12 months, £14.00 between 12-24 months service and then £16.00 per hour

Weekends - £14.00 first 12 months, £14.30 between 12-24 months service and then £16.30 per hour

Bank Holiday - £40 bonus paid per shift

Hours of work and role: A rotating shift pattern of 5 days in 7, published up to 6-8 weeks in advance so you can plan around shifts. Mornings starting from 04:00, Afternoons start from 12:00 and Evenings from 18:00 on a rotational basis. We cannot offer fixed early, afternoon or evenings separately. Overtime available at request/availability

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years of age.

• Will need to pass an English comprehension test.
• Great people skills.
• Flexibility as your shifts will start as early as 4AM in the morning but will always work no later than 1AM depending on the time that you start.
