Job summary

Arriva Durham County Limited is seeking a Trainee Bus Driver at the Durham depot to begin a rewarding career serving the community. You will receive full paid training to obtain your PCV licence and will work with a mentor as you start driving, helping passengers travel safely and reliably.

Hours include rotating shifts starting early in the morning with progression opportunities into management or specialist driving roles, plus benefits like staff bus travel and workplace discounts.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Have been driving for a minimum of 6 months.
• No more than 6 points on your licence.
• Will need to pass an English comprehension test.
• Flexibility to work early mornings and shift patterns.

Responsibilities

• Complete full paid training to obtain PCV licence at Arriva Training School.
• Work with a mentor during initial weeks.
• Serve customers and transport passengers safely and reliably.

Trainee Bus Driver - Pay Rate: £13.70 - £16.30 per hour

Pay Rate: £13.70 - £16.30 per hour Weekdays - £13.70 first 12 months, £14.00 between 12-24 months service and then £16.00 per hour Weekends - £14.00 first 12 months, £14.30 between 12-24 months service and then £16.30 per hour Bank Holiday - £40 bonus paid per shift.

The training generally last approx. 4 weeks and will take place at our Ashington depot, before you then work with a mentor for a further few weeks. Hours of work and role:

A rotating shift pattern of 5 days in 7, published up to 6-8 weeks in advance so you can plan around shifts. Mornings starting from 04:00, Afternoons start from 12:00 and Evenings from 18:00 on a rotational basis. We cannot offer fixed early, afternoon or evenings separately. Overtime available at request/availability.

Requirements:

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Have been driving for a minimum of 6 months.
• No more than 6 points on your licence.
• Will need undergo a drug and alcohol test before your assessment.
• Will need to pass an English comprehension test.
• Great people skills.
• Flexibility as your shifts will start as early as 4AM in the morning but will always work no later than 1AM depending on the time that you start.
