Job summary

Malvern Hills District Council is seeking a Trainee Building Control Surveyor to join the Building Control team. The role involves formal training in plan vetting, site inspections and handling dangerous structures, with mentoring provided as part of a permanent contract.

The successful candidate will be self-motivated, customer-focused and committed to delivering high-quality Building Control services across the South Worcestershire partnership. Driving licence and mobility are required.

Qualifications

• Candidate must understand Building Control work and its safety contributions.
• Ability to undertake site visits including climbing ladders and working in confined spaces.
• Committed to customer care and service delivery.
• Ability to adapt to change and improve working methods.
• Accurate recording of information and writing reports for stakeholders.
• Awareness of Building Act 1984 and Building Regulations 2010.

Responsibilities

• Plan vetting and site inspections as part of Building Control duties.
• Deal with applications (full plans/building notices), dangerous structures and enforcement as required.
• Collaborate with Malvern Hills District Council, Wychavon District Council, and Worcester City Council on development proposals.
• Contribute to delivery of high-quality Building Control service.

Trainee Building Control Surveyor

£28598 - £32597 per annum

37 hours per week

Permanent Contract

The South Worcestershire Building Control Partnership is a forward thinking, customer focussed team, providing a Building Control Service dealing with all aspects of Building Regulations, including the examination of full plans/building notice applications, site inspections, dangerous structures, unauthorised and regularisation applications and enforcement duties as and when required. We deal with a wide range of interesting development proposals across south Worcestershire for Malvern Hills District Council, Wychavon District Council and Worcester City Council.

We are currently expanding the team with a new opportunity to join Building Control as a Trainee Building Control Surveyor.

The successful candidate for this role will undertake formal training and mentoring in the full range of Building Control duties including plan vetting, site inspections and dangerous structures. You will have a positive attitude towards the delivery of quality services and contribute to the development of services.

About You

The successful candidate will:

• Have a good understanding of the nature and scope of Building Control work including its contribution to improving Health and Safety of residents.


• Have the ability to undertake site visits which may involve activities such as climbing ladders/operating in confined spaces.


• Be totally committed to customer care.


• Have the ability to positively respond to change and seek new and improved ways of working.


• Be able to receive and record information accurately, including writing reports for a variety of stakeholders.


• Have an awareness of the Building Act 1984, The Building Regulations 2010.


• Have an awareness of core areas of building control and how the industry positively impacts the residents.


• Be a team player whilst also being able to work on own initiative.


• Be computer literate and have excellent communication skills.


• Hold a driving licence and use of a car for business or fully mobile with access to transport.
