Job summary

Protocol Education Limited in Sunderland is seeking a Trainee Behaviour Teaching Assistant to join our school-based team. You will support pupils with behaviour and emotional needs alongside teachers and pastoral staff, contributing to a structured, caring learning environment.

No prior school experience is required, but a DBS check and safeguarding training are essential. A driving licence is beneficial for access to multiple schools across Sunderland.

Qualifications

• Experience in youth work, sports coaching, mentoring, care, or support work is advantageous.
• No prior school experience required but willingness to train.
• All candidates must undertake a valid enhanced DBS check and subscribe to the DBS Update Service.

Responsibilities

• Support pupils 1:1 and in small groups alongside teachers.
• Help build positive relationships with pupils and staff.
• Encourage pupils to engage with learning and follow routines.
• Support emotional regulation and reinforce positive behaviour strategies.
• Assist in establishing clear routines and boundaries within lessons.
• Encourage communication and independence during activities.
• Support pupils during lessons and school activities as part of the pastoral team.

Protocol Education are looking for Trainee Behaviour Teaching Assistants to work within schools across Sunderland.

This role could be particularly suited to people from youth work, sports, care, mentoring or support backgrounds who want to move into education.

The Role

You'll work alongside teachers and pastoral teams to support pupils who may need additional help with behaviour, emotional regulation and engagement.

You may:

• Support pupils 1:1 and in small groups
• Build positive relationships
• Encourage pupils to engage with learning
• Support emotional regulation
