Job Title: Trainee Animal Technician
We are currently seeking a Trainee Animal Technician to join our client's team at a Biological Services Facility in York. In this role, you will support animal welfare for researchers. As a trainee, you'll have the opportunity to learn all aspects of animal care, from husbandry to health checks and facility maintenance. Rest assured, you will receive comprehensive support and on-the-job training to build your confidence and understanding of your vital role.
Basic Requirements:
- Basic GCSE qualifications are required.
- Animal Care Qualification or genuine interest in animal care.
- Practical experience caring for animals in work or voluntary settings is essential.
- Husbandry experience with rodents is beneficial.
- Excellent time management and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to multitask and work effectively as part of a team.
- Willingness to undertake training in accordance with Home Office requirements.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform routine tasks following standard operating procedures.
- Report animal welfare concerns to the NACWO.
- Prepare items for autoclaving, load, and operate autoclaves.
- Apply knowledge to solve routine problems and use initiative.
- Assist with equipment preparation and supply of consumables for scheduled activities.
- Follow COSHH and health and safety protocols diligently.
- Collaborate with team members, BSF users, and other departmental staff.
- Demonstrate a commitment to professional development by continuously enhancing knowledge and skills.
- Post-training, participate in the weekend and bank holiday rota.
