Job description

Training Contract - Recruitment to this position is subject to funding.

We are recruiting motivated, dedicated, and caring individuals with an eye for detail for the role of Trainee Dental Technician.

This is a part-time (30 hours per week) fixed-term training course, based over 4 days, offering the opportunity to train as a valued member of the Dental Team. You will work alongside qualified dental technicians to produce a wide range of dental devices from a Dentist's prescription.

The post will commence on 15th July 2025 and end on 30th June 2028. Training will be conducted in two laboratories at Leeds Dental Institute, where you will learn to construct various dental appliances under the supervision of qualified Dental Technician Tutors.

As part of your training, you will undertake work placements at commercial dental laboratories to gain broader work-based experience.

Upon successful completion, you will be awarded a BTEC Extended Diploma in Dental Technology, enabling registration as a Dental Care Professional with the General Dental Council (GDC).

Applicants must be at least 16 years old and have a minimum of 5 GCSEs grade 4 or above, including English Language, Maths, and Science. Functional Skills Level 2 in English and Maths are also accepted.

If shortlisted, you will be invited to an interview, a 1-hour practical assessment, and a 30-minute written task.

Main duties of the job

The trainee will undertake a training program at Leeds Dental Institute, delivered through formal education by the School of Dental Care Professionals.

You are expected to commit to self-directed study and complete the program within the contract period.

Under supervision, you will perform routine technical duties in the Dental Production Laboratory, following departmental procedures and guidelines. These duties may include handling patient information, processing documentation, entering data into IT systems, retrieving information, and constructing basic dental devices as part of your training.

Leeds Dental Institute provides specialist treatments and advice following referrals from dentists or doctors, covering all dental specialties, oral and maxillofacial surgery, and oral medicine.

It offers routine dental treatments as part of undergraduate training and operates outreach centers in South Leeds, Bradford, and Hull to serve the community and train dental teams.
