Main duties of the job

We are recruiting Trainee Advanced Clinical Practitioners within our Neurosciences service at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust (UHS). Candidates should have substantial experience in acute clinical practice at band 6 level or equivalent, with strong clinical knowledge and leadership skills. Trainee practitioners will undertake an MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice, supported by our medical colleagues. Our team provides advice and support to multidisciplinary members, including nurses and junior doctors, enhancing patient care quality and continuity.

Job responsibilities

As a Trainee Advanced Practitioner (tACP), you will work across the four pillars of Advanced Practice: Clinical Practice, Leadership and Management, Education, and Research, as outlined in the HEE Multi-professional Framework (2017). Under supervision, you will deliver advanced clinical care within your specialty, developing expertise and completing a clinical portfolio that demonstrates your competencies and progresses towards an MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice.

Qualifications, knowledge, and experience
  • Registered Healthcare Professional on relevant NMC / HCPC register
  • Healthcare Degree (or equivalent, minimum 120 credits at Level 6) or evidence of Masters-level study
  • Eligible for MSc participation in your specialty
  • Experience in supporting learners and colleagues in practice
  • Ongoing professional development
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Significant post-registration experience in your specialty
  • Knowledge of wider Trust initiatives
  • Coaching and leadership experience
  • Completion of HTPA Competencies
  • Independent Non-Medical Prescribing Qualification
  • ILS trained
  • Ability to adapt and initiate practice changes
  • Registered on MSc pathway as an experienced practitioner
  • Further Level 7 study in relevant pathway
  • Maths and English Level 2 or recognized equivalents from ENIC
Disclosure and Barring Service Check

This role requires a DBS check due to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975.
