RXO in Derby is seeking a Fleet Planner to optimize daily vehicle movements and ensure efficient, compliant operations within a fast-paced logistics environment. You will manage routes, schedules, and liaise with drivers and subcontractors to maintain fleet availability and service levels.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years in logistics, ideally fleet or transport planning experience.
• Proficient in Excel and able to communicate across levels.
• Familiar with VOSA legislation, tachograph and working time directive.
• Ability to adapt to peak-demand environments and work under pressure.

Responsibilities

• Plan efficient routes and driver schedules using Qargo TMS.
• Apply UK/EU driver hours rules and tachograph usage.
• Brief drivers on hours, routes and locations; provide real-time support.
• Record issues, incidents and liaise with subcontractors.
• Report vehicle/trailer availability and maintenance.
• Respond quickly to road closures, weather, and staff changes.

You will independently manage daily planning of vehicle movements using cost-effective strategies and ensure compliance with safety and legal standards. Your efforts will directly contribute to maintaining fleet availability, reducing costs, and supporting high service performance in a fast-paced logistics environment.Essential Functions:Plan efficient routes and driver schedules using Qargo TMS to optimize LTL and FTL deliveriesUnderstand national road networks, regional traffic patterns, and route constraints.Apply UK/EU rules on driver working hours, breaks, and tachograph usage.Assign jobs to drivers based on route viability, vehicle type, and driver availability.Record issues (e.g. delays, breakdowns, complaints) against jobs when needed.Brief drivers on hours, routes, and locations; provide real-time support.React quickly to road closures, weather, delays, or staff changes.Liaise with subcontractors, agencies, and external partners.Report on vehicle/trailer availability, maintenance, and driver schedules.Essential Competencies :SkillsLanguage RequirementsStrong decision-making and commercial judgment in time-sensitive, peak-demand environmentsProficient in Microsoft Excel and able to communicate across all levels of the organizationFamiliar with VOSA legislation, including tachograph and working time directive complianceDemonstrated to thrive under pressure in fast-changing, operationally complex environmentsAbility to speak English fluentlyPreferred Education & Experience:3–5 years in logistics, ideally with experience in fleet or transport planning systemsPlease note RXO’s positions are constantly evolving, and job responsibilities will enhance as you grow in your career.
