Job summary

XPO Logistics in Runcorn is seeking a dedicated Transport Planner to join our team on a full‑time, permanent basis for the Ibstock contract. You will oversee daily transport operations, planning routes, monitoring fleet utilisation and ensuring safe, compliant delivery across the fleet.

You will collaborate with drivers and cross‑functional teams to meet service levels and customer requirements, while ensuring ADR, tachograph and Driver CPC compliance and robust reference documentation.

Qualifications

  • Experience in transport, logistics or planning.
  • Solid knowledge of ADR, Driver CPC, tachograph regulations and Operator Licence requirements.
  • Strong organisational and problem solving skills in a fast-paced environment.
  • Confidence using transport management systems and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Excellent communication and ability to build effective relationships with drivers, customers and colleagues.
  • Ability to work independently and make informed operational decisions.

Responsibilities

  • Manage daily transport operations, including scheduling, route planning and fleet utilisation.
  • Oversee drivers and fleet activities, providing guidance to meet standards and customer requirements.
  • Liaise with drivers, customers and internal teams to resolve issues and maintain service levels.
  • Ensure ADR, Driver CPC, tachograph and WTD compliance, with safety as a priority.
  • Respond to disruptions and emergencies, implementing corrective actions to minimise impact.
  • Monitor performance data to identify trends and drive efficiency improvements.
  • Maintain transport records and documentation per company procedures.
  • Support continuous improvement of transport processes and collaborate with the team.

Logistics done differently. Here at XPO, we're looking for a talented Transport Planner to join us on a full-time, permanent basis on our Ibstock contract in Runcorn. The Transport Planner will oversee the day-to-day transport operation, ensuring the safe, efficient, and compliant delivery of services across the fleet. Working closely with drivers and the wider transport team, the role is responsible for planning, scheduling, and fleet utilisation to deliver excellent customer service and operational performance.

What You'll Do On a Typical Day
  • Manage daily transport operations, including scheduling, route planning, and fleet utilisation, ensuring efficient delivery performance and effective use of resources.
  • Oversee drivers and fleet activities, providing support and guidance to ensure operational standards and customer requirements are consistently met.
  • Liaise with drivers, customers, and internal teams to resolve issues and maintain service levels.
  • Ensure all operations comply with ADR, Driver CPC, tachograph, Working Time Directive, and Operator Licence requirements, with safety remaining a key priority.
  • Respond effectively to operational disruptions, delays, and emergencies, implementing corrective actions to minimise impact and prevent recurrence.
  • Monitor and review operational performance data to identify trends, improve efficiencies, and support informed decision-making.
  • Maintain accurate transport records and ensure all documentation is completed in line with company procedures.
  • Support the continuous improvement of transport processes and contribute to a positive and collaborative working environment.
What You Need To Succeed At XPO
  • Previous experience within transport, logistics, or planning is desirable.
  • Good understanding of transport legislation, including ADR, Driver CPC, tachograph regulations, and Operator Licence requirements.
  • Strong organisational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to prioritise workloads in a fast-paced environment.
  • Confident using transport management systems and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to build effective working relationships with drivers, customers, and colleagues.
  • Ability to work independently and make informed operational decisions.
