Job summary

First Bus is looking for a Traffic Manager to lead and inspire our drivers and garage staff at Wandsworth Garage, driving operational excellence and outstanding service daily.

You'll oversee attendance, welfare, development and performance, conduct risk assessments, and ensure payroll accuracy and contract compliance, all while prioritising Health & Safety.

Qualifications

• Experience in the bus, transport, or logistics industry.
• Strong people management skills with proven ability to handle performance issues.
• In‑depth knowledge of platform staff rules, company discipline, and attendance procedures.
• Excellent planning, organisational and problem‑solving skills.
• Financial awareness with the ability to interpret and act on KPIs.
• Solid IT skills (Windows, MS Word, Excel).
• Health & Safety standards knowledge – IOSH or NEBOSH desirable.
• Management CPC (or willingness to work towards it).

Responsibilities

• Leading, motivating and engaging drivers to maintain the highest standards of safety, conduct and performance.

• Managing sickness and absence procedures, probation, inductions and exit processes.
• Conducting route risk assessments and monitoring road safety performance.
• Liaising with Trade Union reps, senior managers, and colleagues to drive staff quality standards and accident prevention.
• Ensuring payroll accuracy and contract compliance through strong administrative oversight.
• Handling public enquiries, lost property, and community correspondence with professionalism.
• Maintaining a strong focus on Health & Safety at all times.
