Job summary

Calderdale Metropolitan Borough Council is seeking an Engineer in Traffic Engineering to help shape safer, smarter streets in Calderdale. You will deliver highway safety improvements, sustainable transport initiatives and public realm enhancements while collaborating across teams and external partners.

The role focuses on traffic engineering design, feasibility studies, TRO progression and stakeholder liaison, with a hybrid/flexible working arrangement and a competitive pension package.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in traffic engineering.
• Strong knowledge of relevant legislation, standards and local authority procedures.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Experience delivering engineering projects from concept through to implementation.
• Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills.
• Proven ability to work collaboratively across disciplines and with external partners.

Responsibilities

• Preparing design solutions and develop highway safety and improvement schemes.
• Undertake work programming, estimating, supervision and reporting on scheme progress.
• Provide technical advice to elected Members, colleagues and the public.
• Work collaboratively with internal services, developers, consultants and external stakeholders.
• Mentor trainees and other staff.
• Progressing permanent and experimental Traffic Regulation Orders.
