Job summary

Carmarthenshire County Council is seeking a motivated Tractor Driver to join the Grounds Maintenance Team across Carmarthenshire's green spaces. The role involves driving tractors and operating hedge flail, towed mower, and verti-drain/aeration equipment on public spaces, education centres and pitches.

You will work to 37 hours a week (annualised: 37 hours in summer, 31 in winter) with pro-rata adjustments for part-time or term-time work.

Qualifications

  • Full driving licence and knowledge of machinery.
  • Experience in grassland management techniques.
  • Understanding of health and safety regulations and risk assessments.
  • Good communication skills and professional conduct.
  • Basic Welsh language ability (Level 2) required.

Responsibilities

  • Undertake Tractor Driving work and operate ancillary plant.
  • Carry out hedge flail, towed mower, and verti-drain/aeration tasks.
  • Work across green spaces including education centres and pitches.
  • Follow risk assessments and safe systems of work.
  • Represent the service professionally and work both independently and as part of a team.

An opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated, flexible individual to join our Grounds Maintenance Team as a Tractor Driver to assist in the service delivery of our extensive green space maintenance programme across the County of Carmarthenshire.

Specifically, you will be responsible for undertaking Tractor Driving work utilising ancillary plant such as Hedge flail, towed mowers and verti-drain/aeration on public open spaces, education centres and sports pitches primarily associated with the maintenance of green spaces in accordance with the Authorities Service Level Agreements and associated Policies such as Bio-Diversity. Duties will also align with the requirements of the Non tractor driver general grounds operative posts and will be assigned annualised working hours of 37hrs / week divided into Summer working hours 43hours/week and winter 31 hours/week. The job will involve working outside in all types of weather conditions.

Applicants must obtain a full driver licence and detailed knowledge of machinery and plant associated with Tractor Work and work as an individual and as part of a team. You must have experience in grass land management techniques and have a comprehensive knowledge and working experience of health and safety regulations and practices and a thorough understanding of risk assessments and safe systems of work.

You will possess good communication skills to ensure the service is always represented in a professional manner.

Level 2 - You will need a basic level of conversational Welsh. Reasonable support can be provided on appointment to reach this level.
