Job summary

Carmarthenshire County Council in Llanelli is recruiting a Mobile Catering Assistant to support busy school kitchens. You will assist cooks in preparing nutritious meals, ensure food hygiene and safety, and help with setting up tables and cleaning. The role is 16 hours 15 minutes per week, term-time only (38 weeks) with an annualised pay scheme.

This position offers DBS checks where required, a supportive team environment, and opportunities for training and development. Closing date: 11/10/2026.

Qualifications

  • Experience in kitchen or catering is desirable.
  • Basic food safety knowledge required; training provided.
  • Welsh language level (verbal) Level 2 required or accommodated.

Responsibilities

  • Assist cooks in preparing nutritious meals while ensuring compliance with Food Hygiene and Health and Safety guidelines.
  • Set up and clear tables and perform general cleaning duties.
  • Support kitchen operations and work 16 hours 15 minutes per week (3 hours 15 minutes per day).

Working for us, you will have the opportunity to work in our busy kitchens located in the Llanelli area. You will assist our Cook's in preparing nutritious and appetising meals whilst ensuring compliance with all aspects of Food Hygiene and Health and Safety. Other duties will include the setting up and clearing away of tables and general cleaning duties.

This post is for 16 hours and 15 minutes per week / 3 hours 15 minutes per day . Hourly rate is £13.45.

Working hours are Monday to Friday, term time only (38 weeks), ideal to fit around family commitments and other roles we offer. We offer an 'annualised' pay scheme so that our staff who work term time receive pay over 52 weeks. We need a motivated and dedicated person who has:

  • The ability to build good relationships with adults and children based on mutual respect.
  • Knowledge of basic food safety. This would be an advantage, but not essential as full training will be given.
  • Good communication and people skills
  • The ability to work on their own and as part of a team.

You will need:

  • A positive attitude and the willingness to learn new skills.
  • Flexibility and the willingness to assist with other catering duties.

DBS level
