Job summary

Staffline in Blackburn is seeking a skilled Toolmaker for a modern, high-automation food packaging facility. You will maintain, repair and modify injection mould tools, work on hot runner systems, and support production with precision machining.

This role offers a structured onboarding, a Monday–Friday day shift, and a commitment to safety and quality. Candidates with a recognised Toolmaking Apprenticeship and hands-on shop-floor experience are encouraged to apply.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as an Injection Moulding Toolmaker in manufacturing.
• Strong knowledge of injection mould tooling, repair, and maintenance techniques.
• Competent in manual turning, milling, surface grinding and universal grinding.
• Experience working with hot runner systems.
• Able to fault-find and diagnose tooling issues on the shop floor.
• Toolmaking apprenticeship and relevant engineering qualifications are desirable.
• Self-motivated with minimal supervision and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Carry out maintenance, repair, and modification of injection moulding tools.
• Diagnose and resolve tooling issues on the toolroom and production floor.
• Work on hot runner systems and support production performance.
• Operate manual centre lathes, milling machines, surface grinders, and universal grinding equipment.
• Conduct precision machining to maintain tooling to high quality standards.
• Support continuous improvement to enhance tool performance and reliability.
• Manage workload and undertake planned tooling activities during quieter production periods.
• Collaborate with production and engineering to minimise downtime.

Salary: £43,243.49 - £47,675.95 per annum

Shift: Monday to Friday Days | 40 Hours per Week
Overtime Available (Including Weekends When Required)

Responsibilities - Toolmaker

• Carry out maintenance, repair, and modification of injection moulding tools.
• Diagnose and resolve tooling issues both within the toolroom and on the production floor.
• Work on hot runner systems and support production performance.
• Operate manual centre lathes, milling machines, surface grinders, and universal grinding equipment.
• Conduct precision machining to maintain tooling to the highest quality standards.
• Support continuous improvement activities to enhance tool performance and reliability.
• Manage workload effectively and proactively undertake planned tooling activities during quieter production periods.
• Work closely with production and engineering teams to minimise downtime and maximise efficiency.

Qualifications / Experience - Toolmaker

• Proven experience as an Injection Moulding Toolmaker within a manufacturing environment.
• Strong knowledge of injection mould tooling, repair, and maintenance techniques.
• Fully competent in manual machining disciplines including turning, milling, surface grinding, and universal grinding.
• Experience working with hot runner systems.
• Ability to fault-find and diagnose tooling issues on the shop floor.
• Recognised Toolmaking Apprenticeship and relevant engineering qualifications are highly desirable.
• Self-motivated and capable of working independently with minimal supervision.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high-quality standards.
