Job summary

Sendsory Ltd is seeking SEND Assistants to support a Therapeutic Curriculum for 4-11s with SEND in Ipswich. The role is 40 hours per week during term time, with a fixed-term contract from 01/09/2026 to 31/08/2027. Duties include 1:1 and small group delivery, EHCP integration, and trauma-informed practice.

You will work with the Therapeutic Teacher and Head of Wellbeing to support children’s learning, regulation and social skills, while upholding safeguarding and a calm, nurturing environment.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with children with SEND.
  • Understanding trauma-informed, attachment-aware and restorative approaches.
  • Experience supporting children with communication, emotional regulation and learning needs.
  • Confidence supporting children with behaviour that may challenge.
  • Ability to build positive, consistent relationships with children and families.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills.
  • Ability to adapt learning activities to meet individual needs.
  • Calm, nurturing and flexible approach to supporting children.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding procedures and responsibilities.
  • Experience using visual supports and communication approaches such as PECS, Makaton or Talk Pads is desirable.
  • Relevant qualifications or experience within education, SEND or child development are desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Support delivery of the Therapeutic Curriculum through 1:1 and small group sessions.
  • Work with the Therapeutic Teacher to deliver sessions.
  • Implement EHCP outcomes within sessions.
  • Support pupils to achieve outcomes linked to AQA Unit Award Scheme.
  • Deliver wellbeing activities and trauma-informed sessions.
  • Support community-based learning and real-world life skills.
  • Promote development of life skills and social communication.
  • Provide personal care for children as required.
  • Set up and tidy therapy spaces before/after sessions.
  • Attend safeguarding and behaviour briefings and contribute to planning.
  • Record and report behaviour incidents and safeguarding concerns.
