Job summary

TeacherActive is recruiting SEND Learning Support Assistants, Teaching Assistants and SEND Support Workers for a specialist SEND school in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk. The roles involve supporting 3–19 year olds with SEND across Early Years to Post-16, with opportunities for long-term placements.

You will work alongside teachers and therapists to provide personalised care and educational support, helping pupils develop communication, independence and life skills in a nurturing environment.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting children or young people with SEND, autism, SLD or PMLD.
• Experience in a SEND school, mainstream school, care setting, healthcare environment or similar support role.
• A patient, caring and compassionate approach.
• Confidence supporting pupils with complex learning and communication needs.
• Willingness to assist with personal care where required.

Responsibilities

• Providing 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with complex SEND needs.
• Supporting children with SLD, PMLD, autism and additional learning difficulties.
• Assisting pupils with communication through visual aids, Makaton, PECS and alternative communication methods where appropriate.
• Supporting personal care requirements, including toileting, changing and feeding where necessary.
• Helping pupils develop independence, confidence and essential everyday life skills.
• Supporting sensory-based activities, creative learning and adapted classroom tasks.
• Assisting pupils with physical disabilities and mobility needs, following appropriate training.
• Promoting positive behaviour, emotional regulation and a safe learning environment.
• Working collaboratively with teachers, therapists and other professionals to support individual pupil development.
