Job summary

Coombe House School is an independent special school in Dorset for pupils aged 5 to 19 with SEMH and ASD. All pupils have an Education, Health and Care Plan and benefit from a therapeutic approach that prioritises positive relationships and behaviour as communication.

We seek compassionate Learning Support Assistants who thrive in a challenging yet rewarding environment, helping pupils develop social, life and independence skills while supporting learning and wellbeing.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting children with SEMH and neurodiversity such as autism.
• Experience as SEND Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant or Youth Worker.
• Currently in a mainstream Secondary setting and keen to move into Special Education.

Responsibilities

• Assist teachers to create a positive learning environment.
• Provide therapeutic support to pupils.
• Engage pupils in teacher-planned activities on and off site.
• Support pupils in managing behaviour and learning.
• Equip pupils with coping skills and social interaction strategies.
• Promote positive behaviour to improve outcomes.
• Teach emotional self-regulation and communication skills under supervision.
