Job summary

The Chiltern Hospital in Great Missenden is seeking a Theatre Practitioner with scrub experience to join the theatre team. The role covers 37.5 hours per week on a permanent basis, with travel to the sister site at High Wycombe for dual-site working.

Applicants must have orthopaedic scrub experience and hold NMC or HCPC registration. You will work across a multidisciplinary team, supporting anaesthetics and ensuring patient safety throughout the surgical pathway.

Qualifications

• Registered Nurse (NMC) or Operating Department Practitioner (HCPC).
• Experience or training in theatre environment specialising in scrub, anaesthetics, or recovery.
• Understanding of infection control, manual handling, and patient safety principles.
• Ability to work under pressure, problem-solve, and respond quickly to changes in a dynamic environment.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Attention to detail, accuracy, and commitment to safe surgical practice.
• Applicants must have previous orthopaedic experience

Responsibilities

• Assist the surgical team by preparing instruments, maintaining sterility, anticipating surgeon needs, and ensuring equipment safety.
• Support the Anaesthetist in equipment preparation, patient monitoring, airway management, and positioning; and provide post-operative care, monitoring vital signs, managing pain and nausea, and ensuring patient readiness for discharge.
• Adhere to infection prevention and control policies and procedures at all times.
• Set up operating theatres according to surgery type and specific patient requirements.
• Check all surgical and anaesthetic equipment prior to use and report faults immediately.
• Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to achieve safe and efficient surgical lists
• Support and contribute to a positive, respectful, and efficient theatre environment.
