Job summary

Cardiff and Vale University Health Board in Blackpool seeks a highly motivated Theatre Scrub Practitioner for the Cardiac Theatres. The unit performs over 1,000 adult Cardiac cases annually and around 500 Thoracic cases, including robotic thoracic procedures.

You will prepare instruments, maintain a sterile environment, and anticipate the surgical team's needs by passing instruments during procedures. A structured training program supports rapid integration and ongoing development.

Qualifications

• Willingness to complete teaching and assessing qualification.
• Willingness to complete specialist qualification; minimum 2 years post-registration theatre experience.
• Experience of team management and the ability to establish priorities.

Responsibilities

• Prepare surgical instruments, maintain a sterile environment, and anticipate the surgical team's needs by passing instruments during procedures.
• Scrub nurse responsible for correct counts of swabs, needles and instruments at end of procedures.
• Support a large unit with a structured training program for rapid integration and ongoing development.

A vacancy has arisen within the Cardiac Theatres at Blackpool. We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Theatre Scrub Practitioner. The Unit consists of 4 theatres that perform over 1,000 adult Cardiac Cases annually, including minimal access surgery, as well as around 500 Thoracic cases, including robotic thoracic cases. As well as working in the 4 theatres as a scrub practitioner, there are opportunities to work in the theatre recovery area and Cardiology. Ideally the candidate should have experience in Cardiac Theatres but all registered Nurse / ODP's applicants will be considered as training can be provided.Main duties of the job Main duties The core hours are between 08.00 and 19.00 Monday to Friday, with a 7 day, 24-hour emergency on-call service, that you will be expected to join. Preparing surgical instruments, maintain a sterile environment, and anticipate the surgical teams needs by passing instruments during the procedures. The scrub nurse is responsible for the correct count of swabs needles and instruments at the end of the procedure. We have an excellent structured training program so you quickly become an integrated team member.
